Celebrate 'The Great Escape' with this best selling T-shirt. One of the greatest movie motorcycle scenes ever is Captain Virgil Hilt's (Steve McQueen) chase sequence in 'The Great Escape'.
McQueen is famous for The Great Escape’s most famous stunt, that jump into the barbed wire. It was probably done by McQueen's stunt double Bud Ekins, but both men completed the jump several times, so it's not certain who did the actual jump in the movie.
McQueen did have lots of screen time riding a 650cc Triumph TR6 Trophy. At one point, due to clever editing, he's in a German uniform chasing him-self on another bike!
